In “The Anchor,” Luis R.R. Siqueira reimagines permanence and impermanence in a single black-and-white frame. A cyclist, helmet secured and panniers loaded, rides through a streaking cityscape where architecture, normally a symbol of endurance, dissolves into ghostlike horizontals. The buildings melt into abstract motion, while the rider remains momentarily defined: a gravitational center in a collapsing visual order.

This photograph is a meditation on how we inhabit cities. Our experience of the built environment is never fixed, it’s shaped by our own movement through space. The strong horizontal blur of stone and glass contrasts the upright figure of the cyclist, whose silent journey is punctuated by the negative space of the road. A dark vehicle on the frame’s edge adds a parallel narrative of unseen lives and unseen destinations.
